Should I buy a Ford Fiesta ST?

Hot hatches generally have to be dual-purpose machines, required to provide thrills and performance when it’s asked of them, but to be useable, practical, affordable, everyday cars at all other times. And, according to Fiesta ST reviews, very few cars get close to fulfilling this versatile role as well as the small Ford does. Of course, it helps that the ST is based on the highly talented Fiesta. The Fiesta’s excellent driving manners have been transferred to the ST, new car reviews state, but with excitement levels ramped up considerably. Class-leading dynamics mean amazing body control, a neutral handling balance with very little understeer, well-weighted and precise controls and great traction coming out of bends.

The 1.6 Ecoboost responds sharply and without any peaks or dips in its delivery, making 182hp seem almost undramatic, but this is still a very quick hatchback with a 0-62mph time of just 6.9 seconds. It sounds good too, a result of the ‘symposer’ feature that channels engine noises into the cabin. The ride is firm but not uncomfortable, noise levels aren’t too bad and it’s easy to find a good driving position in the Recaro seats, so the ST makes for a comfortable and easy-going car, when you’re not pressing on. It’s also decently well built, as practical as most other supermini-based hot hatches and good value at £17,645 for the base ST, which comes with air con, DAB, SYNC connectivity and voice activation. And it’s cheap to fuel too, being capable of up to 47.8mpg combined.

Should I buy a Fiesta ST?

The Fiesta ST is a thoroughly complete car. It’s about as well-rounded a hot hatch as you could hope to find, providing a near-perfect driving experience that majors on entertainment, highly competent dynamics and very strong performance, while still being easy to live with on a daily basis and very reasonable to run on a financial basis. It’s hard to see where it could be improved.
